Calorie , a unit of Expent Jeans
or variously defined. The calorie was originally defined as the amount of heat required at a pressure of 1 Christian Mountain Men Polo Shirt With White Stripe Pattern
to raise the temperature of 1 of water 1° Celsius. Since 1925 this calorie has been defined in terms of the joule , the definition since 1948 being that one calorie is equal to approximately 4.2 joules. Because the quantity of heat represented by the calorie is known to differ at different temperatures (by as much as 1 percent), it has consequently been necessary to define the temperature at which the Fred Perry Brentham Jacket Blouson With Zip Pockets Sludge Ash
of water is to be taken as 1 calorie. Thus the “15° calorie” (also called the gram-calorie, or small calorie) was defined as the amount of heat that will raise the temperature of 1 gram of water from 14.5° to 15.5° C—equal to 4.1855 joules. Other less common definitions in this series are the 20° calorie (4.18190 joules) from 19.5° to 20.5° C; and the mean calorie (4.19002 joules) defined as 1 / 100 of the heat necessary to raise the temperature of 1 gram of water from 0° to 100° .

Another calorie, a unit of heat energy, is the International Table calorie (IT calorie), originally defined as 1 / 860 international watt-hour. It is equal to 4.1868 joules and is used in engineering steam tables.

A unit of heat energy used in thermochemistry is the thermochemical calorie, equal to 4.184 joules. It is commonly used as the unit for heat capacities, latent heats, and heats of reaction.

In a popular use of the term calorie, dietitians loosely use it to mean the kilocalorie , sometimes called the kilogram calorie, or large Calorie (equal to 1,000 calories), in measuring the calorific, heating, or metabolizing value of foods. Thus, the “calories” counted for dietary reasons are in fact kilocalories, with the “kilo-” prefix omitted; in scientific notations a capitalized Calorie is used. In other words, if a peach is listed as having 40 Calories, this indicates that that peach has actually 40,000 calories.

In nutrition it has been proposed that the Soliver Red Label Beachwear Overall Mit Blumendruck
replace the kilocalorie as the unit of choice for discussing the energy value of foods. Such a change would bring the Clark Low Shoes
of food scientists into closer agreement with that of other scientists. The conversion factor for expressing kilocalories as kilojoules, as recommended by the Committee on Nomenclature of the International Union of Nutritional Sciences, is 1 kilocalorie equals 4.184 kilojoules, based on the kilocalorie determined at 14.5° to 15.5° C. Although government publications now often provide energy counts in kilojoules and kilocalories, Calorie is still the most commonly used food energy unit around the world.

The SS-1 “Scud A” was designed a short time after the end of World War II by captured German scientists and is based upon the Nazi V-2 rocket which was used to attack London during the Second World War. The Scud family of short-range, liquid-fueled missiles has now proliferated around the world and serves as the basis for many other missile designs, under the household name, ‘Scud.’

The SS-1 “Scud A”

Originated From: Russia Possessed By: Russia Alternate Name: 8A61/8K11/8K14, SS-N-1B Class: Short-range Ballistic Missile (SRBM) Basing: Road-mobile Length: 10.3-12.29 m Diameter: .88 m Launch Weight: 5,400-6,500 kg Payload: Single warhead Warhead: Nuclear, chemical, HE Propulsion: Single-stage liquid propellant Range: 190-550 km Status: Operational In Service: 1955-present

Although generally Scuds carry conventional explosives, the ‘Scud A’ was originally developed for the purpose of carrying a nuclear warhead. The R-11M ‘Scud A’ entered into service in 1955. The ‘Scud A’ was 10.3 m long and had a diameter of 0.88 m. The missile had a range of 190 km and was accurate to about three km CEP. In 1958 the missile was equipped with a 50 kT nuclear warhead and designated the R-11M. Schöffel Trainingspullover Firstlayer Lienz1
The poor accuracy of the R-11M system made it more suitable for use against large stationary soft targets though the addition of a nuclear warhead made the system far more suitable for use as a tactical weapon.

R-17 “Scud B”

The R-17 ‘Scud B’ was an upgrade over the ‘Scud A’ that became operational in 1962. The missile is 11.25 m long, 0.88 m in diameter, and a launch weight of 5,900 kg. It has a range of 300 km with accuracy of 450 m CEP. Several different warheads were developed for the ‘Scud B’ missiles including nuclear yields between 5 and 70 kT, chemical agents, and conventional high explosive. A typical ‘Scud B’ takes approximately one hour to finish a single launch sequence. It uses an inertial guidance system and a single-stage liquid propellant engine. The R-17 ‘Scud B’ was deployed in 1962. Though the system is obsolete and has been replaced by new designs in Russia, it is still one of the most common and widely deployed missile systems in the world. By 1965, the new ‘Scud B’ missile was operational in many European and Middle Eastern counties. In 1973, Egypt fired a small number of the ‘Scud B’ missiles against Israel. Over 600 ‘Scud B’ and North Korean ‘Scud B’ variants were fired by Iran and Iraq between 1980 and 1988. Over 2,000 ‘Scud B,’ and possibly a small number of ‘Scud C’ missiles, are thought to have been used in Afghanistan.
